The Goal: Clean, sustainable, affordable, and reliable ENERGY.

Energy in Lebanon - Summary of the Challenge:

• Lebanon spends over $ 1.5 billion each year to cover the losses of Electricité du Liban.
• Energy outages are part of daily life in all of Lebanon, ranging from 3 hours per day in Beirut, up to sometimes 8 hours per day in smaller villages, with substantial share of the population not connected to the power grid at all.
• The Lebanese government is no longer capable of investing in the electricity sector because of the high budget deficit.
• A heavy reliance on fuel electricity generation plants for municipal power, and smaller private generators for when the municipal supply is adequate or cuts.
• Minimal access to alternative sources of energy; though solar water heaters are increasingly used and promoted.
