According to “Imad Hamzah”, the supervisor of the polling station in Achrafieh, Beirut I, Polling Stating 103, 345 of 645 voters have dropped in their votes, which estimates to approximately 53.3 % of registered voters. The elections have seemed to be cooling down, with only 10 minutes left until the polls close.

A resident living in the “Corniche Al Mazraa” district claimed that the area has been quiet and calm so far, in contrast it is only swamped with Tayar Al Mustakbal supporters and personnel; waving flags and listening to their Hymns. She also stressed on the high level of organization in the electoral process, through dispatching convenient amounts of armed forces at every corner preserving the peace.

In Keserwan, the mood was quite calm in the morning… People from different political sides, were sitting and chatting together… But later, during the day, some conflicts caused a tense mood. In many regions young people had serious problems with each other, even if they are in the same political side! The good thing is that every time something happened, the armed forces were ready to stop them… And the elections go on with all these conflicts.

Phase II is Coming: Sawt Ashabab preparing to launch monthly in Sep/Oct

The Sawt Ashabab project is preparing to launch into Phase II, an ongoing web and print publishing effort that will serve as a community and platform for alternative news, civil society information, and youth activism in Lebanon. The effort will build on the great success of the trial period (April-June 2009) with an expanded multi-lingual print edition distributed through our own network and media partners, plus a more sophisticated interactive multimedia website. A brainstorming session on June 28 with about 25 people led to some exciting ideas for the next steps of Sawt Ashabab, with other events in the coming weeks to further refine what a community-based alternative media outlet could look like in 2009 (and beyond), and how Sawt Ashabab can work towards that vision.

مع اقتراب موعد الإنتخابات النيابية، يبدأ الناخبون من منتمين الى أحزاب أو مستقلّين، باتّخاذ قراراتهم السياسية والإنتخابية وفقاً لمعايير متعدّدة. وتتنوّع تحديداً آراء الناخبين الشباب الذين يمارسون حقّهم بالإقتراع للمرّة الأولى.
ففي بلدة شمالية لا يتعدّى عدد نوّاب قضائها الثلاثة، ينقسم الشباب فيما بينهم، ويجوز تصنيفهم إلى أربع فئات: فئة الشباب الحزبي، فئة الشباب الواعي، فئة الشباب "المصلحجي"، وفئة الشباب الجاهل.

عملية حسابية بسيطة يقوم بها تلامذة المرحلة الإبتدائية، تسمح لنا بأن نعرف كم تستهلك من القهوة. فإذا إعتبرنا أن ركوة القهوة تصنع ثلاثة فناجين وتحتاج إلى ثلاث ملاعق من البن، وكيس البن المتوسط الحجم الذي بلغ سعره 2250 ليرة لبنانية لماركة "متوسط النوعية" يصنع 15 ركوة تقريباً أي 45 فنجاناً. ولو اعتبرنا انّ "أخونا الزعيم المبجل المعظم" يستقبل قرابة المائة شخص يومياً، فأنت تحتاج إلى حوالي عشرة أكياس من البن في الأسبوع، أي ان الكلفة الشهرية للبن فقط تتخطى المائة ألف ليرة لبنانية، "ولسا ما ابتديناش" كما يقال في مصر.
هذه العملية البسيطة تأتي ببساطة قبل تساؤلي: لماذا تركض للوصول إلى المجلس النيابي؟

مع اقتراب السابع من حزيران تشعر وكأن الإعلانات تحاصرك من كل جانب. تحاول الهرب منها قليلاً فتنظر إلى الأعلى، تتذكر أن "السما زرقا" و"الشمس صفرا"، فتقرر أن تستسلم وتبدأ مرة أخرى عملية التنازل عن المزيد من الأشياء التي تخصك. وبعد أن تتخلص من ثيابك ومتعلقاتك الزرقاء والبرتقالية والحمراء والخضراء والصفراء، تبتعد عن الشمس والسماء وتتجنب الحديث عن المستقبل أو التغيير أو المقاومة؛ لكنك وفي محاولة للتفاؤل، لا تنكر أن للإعلانات إيجابيات: لقد رسمت، مع كل القلق الذي تثيره الانتخابات، ابتسامة على وجه المواطن، كما أنها أثبتت أن التيارين الرئيسيين المتنافسين، على الرغم من كل ما أحدثاه من تراجع في الأداء والخطاب السياسي، قادران على المنافسة الجدية في مجال ما. ـ
